The once small fishing village of Torrevieja has seen a massive transformation from the days of which it was home to only 2,000 people, now Torrevieja is near enough a city and is known to be the fastest growing town in Spain with the exception of Madrid!
Torrevieja was originally a salt-mining and fishing village, it is located between the sea and two large salt lakes which give Torrevieja a healthy micro climate - Torrevieja is said to be one of the healthiest places to live in the world by the W.H.O (World Health Organisation) and residents benefit from over 300 days of sunshine every year as well as an average temperature of around 24C. This obviously makes Torrevieja an excellent place to purchase a holiday home or a place to retire in the sun.
Situated between both Murcia and Alicante - Torrevieja is ideally placed to travel to either of the international airports positioned either side of the town. The name "Torrevieja" comes from the Spanish word for "Old Tower" - in 1829 Torrevieja was destroyed by an earthquake that also took many small villages from Torrevieja to Orihuela.
From a visitors point of view, Torrevieja is a perfect place to come and visit or to live permanently. There is plenty to do whether it is sports that you enjoy, shopping through out the day, relaxing on the award winning blue flag beaches, enjoying the excellent sea food that is caught locally, spending the evenings in the hundreds of bars and restaurants that are on offer or any of the other facilities that are situated here in Torrevieja.
